Jarem Hallows - Lewis Britt.jpg

Our family’s interest in supporting BYU athletics was driven in two parts. First, we were football fans and felt that BYU would be a positive influence on any student-athlete, especially one who was not a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Secondly, we wanted to honor a man whose life and family stand as an inspiration to anyone.

Jarem Hallows was a 2009 graduate of BYU and a fan of the Cougars. In 2015, he was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma. He and his family had a long and arduous physical and spiritual struggle they endured courageously until his passing in November 2018. How he daily faced his battle with cancer was nothing short of heroic. Jarem handled things faithfully, submitted to the Lord’s will, and he was as brave as he was good. He was an exemplary disciple of Jesus Christ and an extraordinary man. He selflessly shared his family's inspiring journey in his blog.

Our desire to honor Jarem’s legacy is, however, not just focused on him solely. It is impossible to separate Jarem from his wife, Camilla. She was tireless in her support of him and relentless in her trust in God. They were a seamless unit. Honoring him also means honoring her. Their righteousness together can be a model for all of us.

As we continue to make contributions to fully endow this athletic scholarship, we encourage others to consider supporting it as well. The Jarem Hallows Endowed Athletic Scholarship Fund will then help future generations remember in perpetuity a remarkable man and his family.

Go Cougars,

Bill & Linda Freeze

Bill and Linda Freeze have a family legacy of supporting the Cougars. Bill played freshman football at BYU in 1970-71 and their daughter Amy Freeze was a cheerleader from 1993-95. They continue to attend games and share their love of BYU with the next generation, which includes 19 grandchildren (pictured with granddaughter Mallory in the photo).

They shared the following with us: “The marvelous thing about supporting BYU athletics over the years has been watching teams that strive to do their best on the field and in the classroom and at the same time strive to live the values of the BYU Honor Code. Victory is important, but goodness is the REAL winning tradition of Cougar sports!”

Scott & Carli Lee

My favorite memory from BYU football was last year when we beat Boise State. I’m the guy on the right, with Sydney, one of my daughters, to the left; my brother-in-law, David Marlowe, doing the thumbs up; and one of his sons, Tyler, to the far left.

This was the last game David attended. The week after this game, he fell suddenly ill and after a few weeks of an intense battle for his life he passed away leaving his wife, four grown children, and two teenage boys. He loved BYU sports and the Denver Broncos.

BYU football is more to me than a sport. It’s family. It’s the university. It’s the Church. It’s about the gospel of Jesus Christ. All of those are here in this photo: David was a BYU alum and a dedicated man of faith. He will one day rejoin his family because of Jesus Christ. I wish every player, coach and administrator could feel how they contribute to us as fans. I love touchdowns, but I love what BYU stands for even more. Thank you!

John & Christine Zick

John and Christine Zick love BYU so much they wanted to make it part of their wedding day. Says John:

“Life is interesting, and you never know what's on your journey. One constant for me has been BYU. I have been a fan since before my freshman year. Being single again after so many years, I met Christine and discovered she had the same love for BYU that I did. I knew it was a match made in heaven. Much of our dating and courtship centered around BYU football, basketball, baseball and BYU arts. My son earned his bachelor's and master’s degrees from BYU, and her daughter is now currently a junior.

“When we were planning our wedding, we were excited to make BYU part of our celebration, right down to the Cosmo socks and blue dresses! We were married on November 1 and brought our wedding party to the Marriott Center to cheer at the men's basketball season opener. You could say that BYU helped bring us together. We are two alumni that are loyal, strong and true. Go Cougars!”
